Making a movement: from Scotland to Azerbaijan
I've heard some great feedback from the skill share events that WDM has been running across England recently.
WDM groups in Scotland were intrigued by the sound of these activist events happening down south, but Bristol and Nottingham is quite a distance for us to travel. So we decided it was time there was one up here in Scotland!
On the 27 October we are holding our own skill share event in Edinburgh. Making a movement in Scotland: a skill share and networking day for local campaigners in Scotland will include:
Orkhan Ali works for Oxfam in Azerbaijan. He’ll talk to us about how different it can be campaigning in his country, and about work he does for Oxfam in Azerbaijan on water and food security
Steve Rolfe (pictured above) has been a member of WDM for many years and he is chair of the Glasgow group, and Jess Wade is a member of St. Mark's Amnesty International Group in Edinburgh. They’ll be telling us about what motivates them to campaign, some of the memorable stunts and campaigning they’ve been involved in, and what has kept them inspired and committed over the years.
A chance to meet people campaigning in Scotland on similar issues...
All the organisations below worked with us to organise this skill share and networking event
They have invited activists and members of their own local campaign groups along to the event. When local groups are small, it’s useful to know other campaign groups that you can work with on similar issues, share ideas with and inspire each other to campaign more effectively.
After lunch there will be a chance to share skills for effective campaigning in an open space session where YOU set the agenda.
There will also be a workshop for beginner campaigners, and Per Fischer from FoES will be on hand to help you with any social media queries.
...And much, much more!
Including free lunch, films room and travel subsidies for people travelling from further afield.
